Grenade-throwing robot to fight fires on ships
This robot is known as the SAFFiR. It is being built by students at Virginia Tech and the University of Pennsylvania. It stands 5 feet tall, has multiple cameras, gas sensors, and is battery powered. This robot is meant to be put on Navy ships to stop fires, save people, and very expensive equipment. It is capable of activating fire suppressors and throwing propelled extinguishing agent technology gernades.
The NRL is working on the project with Virginia Tech and the University of Pennsylvania. SAFFiR will follow on from Virginia Tech's CHARLI-L1 robot (pictured) says the NRL.
